AcroLab (Formerly Acro Jam)

Ongoing Sunday Workshop: AcroLab starts January 8 from 1-4pm. It will run until the Spring before a summer break. No AcroLab on Sunday, 3/12 (open studio will still run).

Acro Balance, Sports Acro, Partnering Drills, Tumbling, Hand Balancing, Contortion, Pyramids, Act Creation, and more!

Safety. That's the first and most important element of our collaboration. While AcroLab is a perfect place to come play, we would like to emphasize that it is a controlled, supervised and safe environment.

AcroLab is paid for by the voluntary donation of its participants. Fee = $20 (w/ sliding scale available). AcroLab is run by Henry Wheaton and Tara Jacob. AcroLab is intended to be an all-level event. With that said, participants should be healthy and injury-free enough to participate without endangering themselves or others. Every day at AcroLab we have circus professionals, as well as people who have never done a day of circus in their lives. We welcome everyone to come and try class out.

Please make sure you arrive on time for warm up or you will not be allowed to participate! Students MUST arrive on time but can leave whenever they need to.

We start every day with Acro Lines, which are group drills designed to warm up, condition, and teach basic acro principles. After Lines, we break up into two groups. Newer AcroLabbers can join Tara for a more-structured acro class, while experienced Labbers join Henry for more self-directed time, including safety lines or specific coaching. After 45-60 minutes, the two groups integrate and have about an hour of unstructured time. The sign-up sheet for tricks requiring safety lines is available to all. Next we all gather together and create our Improvised Acrobatic Shape, inspired by the theme of the day. Following the Improvised Acrobatic Shape, we have ten minutes of super-fun conditioning, and finish the class with 30-45 minutes of guided partner (or solo, if you prefer) stretching.

Please arrive ready to enjoy four hours of physical activity. Comfortable, close fitting clothes are recommended. For safety reasons, we take off rings and loose, dangly jewelry, such as necklaces, bracelets or earrings. It's not a bad idea to bring a snack and a bottle of water. Please make sure to tell an instructor if you have an injury or any health or personal issues of which we should be aware.

We look forward to having you join our acro community!

When: 1-4pm (Please arrive within the first 30 minutes of acro jam or you may not be allowed to participate).
